Practice good hand and foot hygiene to prevent and reduce recurrent infections. These are some tips that we can use:
• Wash your hands after touching an infected nail. Prevent nail fungus spreads from nail to nail.
• Use an antifungal spray or powder. Spray or sprinkle your feet and the insides of your shoes.
• Keep your feet and hands dry. Dry skin and nails are less likely to become infected. Apply powder to your dry feet or hands after you take a shower or bath.
• Don't go barefoot in public places. Wear shoes around public pools, showers and locker rooms.
• Wear rubber gloves, especially for dirty job. This protects your hands from overexposure to water. Between uses, turn the rubber gloves inside out to dry.
• Wear appropriate socks (recommended: Synthetic socks), and change them often.
• Choose a reputable manicure and pedicure salon. Make sure the salon sterilizes its instruments. Better yet, bring your own.
• Do not use nail polish and artificial nails. Although it may be cover your ugly nail which infected by nail fungus, this can trap unwonted moisture and worsen the infection.
